Info about Lemvig
Our Hotel in Lemvig is located in the city center, by the old church on Torvet
Welcome to Lemvig, West Jutland’s dimple and the beautiful old market town founded in 1234. The oldest document available confirms that
the town of Lemvig is at least 780 years old in (2013). The old fishing village and market town has today approx. 8,000 inhabitants and is characterized as West Jutland’s only mountain town. The town has always been a thriving trading town. Here among the hills and waves, at the bottom of Lem-Vig and at the foot of the beautiful moraine landscape, you’ll find West Jutland’s dimple or simply, and with a twinkle in the eye, Lidenlund.
Most people are probably familiar with Henning Gantriis’ drawings about “Life in Lidenlund”. Gantriis was born in 1918 in Lemvig, where his father was foreman at the threshing factory Vestjyden.
He trained as a teacher at Nørre Nissum Seminarium and moved to Copenhagen in 1942, where he worked as a drawing teacher until he could make a living as a full-time draughtsman. For people who haven’t visited Lemvig yet, the town can first and foremost be described as incredibly beautiful, with fjord, lake and hills. In fact, the
beautiful entrance is reminiscent of a beautiful Norwegian village, albeit with less height. Sailboats can sail right into the center of town and dock in the harbor, which is a dream for most sailors. There is also a large marina about 2.3 km out of the beautiful beach road that follows the entrance.
Lemvig has everything, a large long pedestrian street with many great shops, the harbor, lake, golf course and is close to the sea. Several museums, the Museum of Religious Art & Lemvig Museum.
On the square is the old, newly renovated church from 1250-(1500). The church was originally a late Gothic nave, but in its expanded form it appears as a nave with two and three side chapels to the north and south and a west tower.
The tower burned down in 1683 after a lightning strike. And had to be restored again in 1788 due to decay. Hotel Tante Lemvig is located on Torvet with a view of the church.
The development of Lemvig Harbor has taken off, with new buildings, new flood protection and a division of Lemvig Harbor into several smaller squares.
The harbor is newly constructed & completed in the summer of 2013 and visitors can choose to take a nice walk on the Planet Trail at Lemvig, which is a scale model of the solar system on a scale of 1-1 billion. It consists of a series of granite & bronze sculptures set up in the landscape along the part of the Limfjord where Lemvig is located. This is a lovely and beautiful walk through nature. With many good views and beautiful nature.
The beautiful landscape you pass through when you walk on Planetstien inspired the poet Thøger Larsen to write the lyrics of the well-known songs “Denmark, now the bright night is shining” and “You Danish Summer – I love you”.
Hope you have many good experiences in Lemvig and welcome back.
